Photography Tour or Workshop? For years, I have participated in various organized photography tours, not just within Europe, but across different continents. Every time, I set off with high expectations, always in search of the “perfect moment.” I have frequently traveled with international photographers, just as often—or even more—with Hungarian photographers. The advantage of organized trips is that not only is every detail carefully planned, but the organizers also take photographers directly to the best locations, ensuring the most stunning subjects. This time, I signed up for a winter trip to Norway, organized by a Hungarian team. Hungary is a small country, where “everyone knows everyone”, which can always be an advantage. However, this time, things were a bit different. The BestPhotoTour—with Krisztián and Zsolt—was a journey with photographers I had never met before. Naturally, this brought excitement and curiosity. Before the trip, we had an introductory online meeting, and as the departure date approached, we received more and more information. I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to set off. The journey began with a meet-up at the airport, and from that moment on, we were fully taken care of. Every detail—from the accommodation and meals to all the preparations—was carefully thought out and flawlessly executed. We were taken to all the key photography locations, receiving plenty of background information along the way. But what made this trip truly special with these two organizers? Photography Tour or Workshop? My first photography tour was actually a workshop in the Dolomites. Learning is always great, but hands-on experience is even better, which is why I chose a workshop—to master technical skills. Back then, I was still struggling with my Nikon camera’s endless buttons, and I had no idea how to capture a sunset without overexposing it. But that’s why I attended a workshop—or so I thought. Unfortunately, this was a one-sided expectation—everyone was too busy with their own perfect shots, and I just stood there, feeling a bit lost. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot, but I had never been on a proper, well-balanced workshop tour. That’s why I was pleasantly surprised on our first day in Norway, when Zsolt and Krisztián went to each and every participant, offering help, advice, and assisting in composing the perfect shot. I was genuinely surprised—because this was exactly what I had desperately needed years ago. And I was grateful that I had finally met two passionate photographers who truly took their role seriously—not just organizing the trip, but also actively supporting the group with guidance and suggestions. In the past 15 years, I’ve traveled extensively, but this Norwegian trip was something truly special—a well-organizedjourney, a small group, a carefully designed concept, the seamless teamwork of the two guides, and an abundance of great moments and learning opportunities. I’ve already signed up for the next BestPhotoTour, and I wish the guys plenty of energy for future planning, many more amazing trips, and a lot of joy and satisfaction—for them and for their clients, and of course, vice versa. 😊
