Iceland Photo Workshop

Unforgettable photographic experience in the land of ice and fire

Iceland – the mystical land of fire and ice – is one of the most breathtaking and inspiring destinations in the world for landscape photographers. This one-week photography workshop takes you through the island’s most iconic locations, from mighty waterfalls to glacier lagoons, black sand beaches to geysers, all the way to the stunning Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The dramatic landforms, unique light conditions, and ever-changing weather offer endless opportunities for creating striking and artistic photographs.

The tour coincides with the midnight sun, when the most beautiful light and colors appear – a natural phenomenon that cannot be experienced in this form anywhere else on Earth.

Iceland is a mystical, enchanted island country that at times feels almost unearthly. This isn’t an exaggeration – even the Apollo astronauts were sent to Iceland for training. According to the program’s geologist, Iceland’s interior landscapes most closely resemble the surface of the Moon. When Neil Armstrong returned from the Apollo 11 mission, he was asked what it was like to walk on the Moon, and he simply replied: “It was exactly like Iceland.”

During the photography workshop, we not only visit the most spectacular locations, but also offer a deeper dive into the technical and artistic aspects of photography. Through individual and group instruction, practical assignments, and personalized feedback, we help every participant grow and improve visibly throughout the journey.

Workshop description

During the workshop, we’ll spend 7 nights in some of Iceland’s most stunning regions, staying in 4 different hotels to remain close to the best photography locations. The itinerary takes us through the iconic landscapes of the southern coast, including Diamond Beach, Jökulsárlón, Dyrhólaey, and Skógafoss, before concluding the week in the magical surroundings of the western Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

The long, warm-toned light of the midnight sun provides a unique opportunity to capture both sunrises and sunsets in soft, golden conditions. Glaciers, waterfalls, black sand beaches, and basalt formations offer a wide range of inspiring subjects.

Throughout the program, on-location instruction, composition guidance, and technical support will help participants grow in their photography. The itinerary is flexible, adapting daily to the current light and weather conditions to ensure the best possible shooting experience.

Day 1 – Arrival & Introduction

Arrival in Iceland and meeting at the airport. We pick up our large 4x4 vehicles, ensuring a comfortable ride with only 4 people per car. We then head to our first accommodation in Reykjavík, where we settle in and get ready for the adventure ahead. In the afternoon, we explore some of Reykjavík’s landmarks, capturing the unique charm of Iceland’s capital. We end the day with a delicious dinner at a top-rated restaurant, enjoying great food and getting to know our fellow photographers.

Day 2 – Waterfalls, Glacier, and Stokksnes

After breakfast, we pack up and head east. Our first photo stops are at the iconic Skógafoss and the hidden gem, Kvernufoss. We then continue to the striking ice formations of the Svínafellsjökull glacier. By evening, we arrive at Fosshotel Vatnajökull and end the day with a sunset photo session among the dramatic dunes and mountains of the legendary Stokksnes.

Day 3 – Glacier Lagoons and Ice on the Beach

At dawn, we capture the ethereal beauty of Diamond Beach during low tide. Throughout the day, we return multiple times to the famous Jökulsárlón and Fjallsárlón glacier lagoons to shoot under different light conditions. We end the day once again at Stokksnes, where the changing colors of the sunset cast new light on the iconic Vestrahorn mountain.

Day 4 – Canyons and Black Beaches

We begin the morning with a sunrise shoot at Stokksnes and the rugged Eystrahorn peaks. In the afternoon, we photograph the impressive Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. The day concludes at the dramatic black sands of Reynisfjara Beach, with its basalt columns and the striking Reynisdrangar sea stacks. Overnight at Hotel Katla in Vík.

Day 5 – Puffins and Plane Wrecks

We start the day on the Dyrhólaey cliffs, photographing puffins and sweeping views of the coastline. Later we visit the famous Solheimasandur airplane wreck. In the afternoon, we photograph the unique Gljúfrabúi and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls using long exposure techniques. For sunset, we return to Dyrhólaey to capture the golden light washing over the coast.

Day 6 – Geysers and Great Waterfalls

Today we journey inland. Our first stop is the massive Haifoss waterfall, followed by the Strokkur geyser, which erupts every few minutes. In the evening, we arrive at the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and check into Fosshotel Hellnar. We finish the day with a sunset shoot along the dramatic cliffs of Arnarstapi.

Day 7 – Wonders of Snæfellsnes and Kirkjufell

We begin with sunrise at the Arnarstapi coastline, then spend the day exploring the peninsula’s highlights: the black beach of Djúpalónssandur, the basalt towers of Londrangar, the Saxhóll volcanic crater, and the famous black church at Búðir. The day’s finale is an evening session at Kirkjufell mountain and the nearby Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall—perhaps Iceland’s most photographed landscape.

Day 8 – Final Workshop & Departure

On the last day of our journey, we return to Reykjavík, reflecting on the incredible experiences and breathtaking landscapes we’ve captured. Arriving at the airport, we bid farewell to this extraordinary island, taking home unforgettable memories and stunning photographs.

This photo workshop is more than just a trip—it’s a space to learn, grow, and get personal guidance from pro photographers. Our goal is that you return home not only with unforgettable memories, but also with new knowledge and stunning images. To capture the best possible photos, sometimes a bit of sacrifice is needed. Weather changes or other unexpected factors may occasionally affect the planned schedule. But your safety always comes first. If something gets postponed or rescheduled, it’s only to ensure you get the best possible experience.

We reserve the right to make program changes if needed.

The main focus of this trip is photography. If something unexpected comes up and a scheduled activity can’t happen at the planned time, our guide will do their best to rearrange or adjust it. We want you to have an amazing time—but we also make the final calls, and it’s important that all participants respect these decisions.

To join the trip, good physical health is required. Serious cardiovascular issues or neurological/mental health disorders may be exclusion criteria. If you’re unsure about your condition, it’s essential to check with your doctor beforehand.

Would you like to take professional photos too?

Our guides will help you find the perfect angle, the best composition, and make the most out of the available light.

We work with every participant individually and stay flexible to adapt to the conditions around us.

If the weather or lighting isn’t quite right, we’ll come back to the same spot—because we want you to capture your subject in the best possible conditions.

One thing’s for sure: thanks to your camera’s memory (and your own), the memories of this trip will stay with you forever.

Tour guide

I hiked, climbed mountains, and then I wanted to bring home what I saw in the mountains, so photography came into my life as a hobby, and after ten years as a profession. I’ve shared my experiences and what I’ve seen with the public in several exhibitions and travelogues. Since I decided to get the FIAP (Fédération Internationale de I’Art Photographique), I have been awarded special prizes, distinctions and acceptances in international competitions. I want to show our travellers the exciting and varied world of landscape photography.

I started my photography journey with bird photography, achieving great results in both national and international competitions. Over time, my interest shifted towards landscape photography, and soon, I also delved into the fascinating world of drone photography. My work has been successfully recognized in prestigious competitions such as National Geographic, Nature Photographer of the Year, Magical Hungary, PCCS International Salon, Sony, vadon.ro, IBP Dreamscapes International Salon, MAFOSZ, FIAP, Pannonia Reflections, BPOTY, and WildLifePhoto. My photographs are featured in permanent exhibitions, and I have also published several self-published books showcasing my work.

Tour guide

Photography is not just a hobby for me – it is a passion inspired by my love of nature. I am fascinated by the beauty of the landscape and the uniqueness of the built environment. Photographic tours allow us to get closer to the wonders of nature, to discover the beauty that surrounds us and to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Besides landscape photography, interior and street photography have a special place in my life. In 2023, I tried to deepen my knowledge in this field by taking a course in Street Photography at MOME. My pictures try to capture the special atmosphere of each location, the magic of the moment and the diversity of the world.
